Position: Props Master
Stipend: $1,000 (Paid in installments or upon completion, as arranged) per Season
Reports to: Executive Artistic Director
Location: Williamsport, PA

Position Overview:

The Props Master is responsible for sourcing, creating, organizing, and managing all hand props and set dressing for a production at the Community Theatre League. This includes collaborating closely with the director, designers, and stage management team to ensure all props meet the artistic vision of the show and are safe, functional, and ready for each performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration & Planning:
    • Attends all production meetings and works closely with the director and designers to understand the prop needs.
    • Read the script and create a detailed props list.
    • Develop and maintain a props budget (as provided).
  • Procurement & Creation:
    • Source, build, borrow, or purchase all props as needed.
    • Ensure props are appropriate to the time period, setting, and director’s vision.
    • Modify or construct props when necessary to meet design or safety requirements.
  • Organization & Maintenance:
    • Arrange and lead two prop clean up days (one in the summer or fall and then one in the winter or spring).
    • Label and organize props backstage and during rehearsals.
    • Maintain and repair props throughout the rehearsal process and run of the show.
    • Set up props tables and track placement and movement.
  • Rehearsals & Performances:
    • Provide rehearsal props and update them with show props as they become available.
    • Be present at key rehearsals (designer runs, tech week, final dress) to support prop changes and troubleshooting.
  • Post-Production:
    • Strike all props after the final performance.
    • Return borrowed items and store or dispose of props per CTL guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Creativity and resourcefulness in sourcing or crafting props.
  • Experience in theater production is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs and handle tools or materials safely.

Time Commitment:

  • Participation in production meetings.
  • Availability during key rehearsals (especially tech week).
  • Some availability for in-person sourcing or crafting as needed.

 

Position: Scenic Head
Stipend: $2,500 (Paid in installments or upon completion, as arranged) per Season
Reports to: Executive Artistic Director
Location: Williamsport, PA

Position Overview:

The Scenic Head is responsible for the planning, construction, and installation of all scenic elements for a production at the Community Theatre League. This role requires both hands-on scenic work and leadership of volunteers during designated build days. The Scenic Head works closely with the director, designers, and technical director to bring the visual world of the play or musical to life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration & Planning:
    • Attend production meetings to coordinate scenic needs with the director, designers, and technical team.
    • Review scenic designs and construction plans (or help develop them if needed).
    • Assist in creating a build schedule that includes cast/crew volunteer build days.
    • Maintain and adhere to a scenic materials budget (as provided).
  • Construction & Implementation:
    • Oversee and participate in the construction, painting, and installation of scenic elements.
    • Lead scenic strike at the close of the production.
    • Ensure all sets are structurally sound, safe, and compliant with appropriate codes.
    • Coordinate load-in and load-out for all set pieces for productions off-site.
  • Volunteer Coordination:
    • Arrange and lead two prop clean up days (one in the summer or fall and then one in the winter or spring).
    • Organize and lead volunteer and cast/crew members during build days.
    • Provide clear direction, assign tasks, and ensure safety during all construction work.
    • Foster a welcoming and productive environment for volunteers of all skill levels.
  • Maintenance & Support:
    • Be available for repairs or touch-ups throughout tech and the run of the show.
    • Collaborate with stage management to maintain the scenic integrity of the show during performances.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with scenic construction and basic carpentry tools.
  • Ability to read and/or create basic scenic plans or drawings.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, especially in managing volunteers.
  • Creative problem-solving and resourcefulness.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, organized work environment.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or elevated platforms.

Time Commitment:

  • Attendance at production and build meetings.
  • Availability for scheduled build days, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Hands-on work during tech week and performance prep.
  • Supervision of scenic strike following the final performance.

 

Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Stipend: $1,000 (Paid in installments or upon completion, as arranged) per Season
Reports to: Executive Artistic Director
Works closely with: House Manager
Location: Williamsport, PA

Position Overview:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, and managing the usher team for all Community Theatre League productions and events. This position also oversees the general cleanliness and readiness of public-facing areas, including the lobby, box office, and patron restrooms. The Volunteer Coordinator serves as a liaison between the theatre and its volunteer base, creating a welcoming, efficient, and supportive environment for both volunteers and patrons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer Management:
    • Recruit and onboard new ushers and front-of-house volunteers.
    • Provide training to all ushers on customer service, seating protocol, emergency procedures, and theatre policies.
    • Maintain an active and up-to-date usher contact list and availability calendar.
    • Create and distribute usher schedules for each production and event.
  • Front-of-House Oversight:
    • Ensure the lobby, box office, and patron restrooms are clean, organized, and presentable before every performance.
    • Coordinate with the House Manager to prepare the front-of-house team prior to house opening.
    • Oversee and support ushers during performances, ensuring smooth patron flow and a positive guest experience.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work in tandem with the House Manager on performance nights to ensure full coverage and efficient house operations.
    • Communicate regularly with the Executive Artistic Director about volunteer needs, performance feedback, and supplies.
  • Facility Support:
    • Conduct routine checks of public areas before performances and address cleanliness or maintenance issues as needed.
    • Report larger facility concerns to the appropriate staff for resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly, organized, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work with and motivate volunteers of all ages and experience levels.
  • Comfortable managing schedules, sending emails, and maintaining volunteer records.
  • Previous experience in customer service or theatre front-of-house preferred but not required.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and responsive.

Time Commitment:

  • Attendance at select performances to oversee usher teams and coordinate with House Manager.
  • Regular availability leading up to and during productions.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours required for volunteer training, usher recruitment, or deep cleaning sessions.
  • Flexible schedule for overseeing or preparing public areas between show weekends.
